The movie is much better than the name implies
I kept NOT watching this movie because of the name... but I kept reading great reviews about it online. So I finally did watch it. Classic of the genre, the intricate story line is everything! A fun, quirky, embarrassing, painful, humorous, raw, and poignant reflection of two people who happened to meet. Fantastic ending! A very enjoyable way to spend two hours, in fact: This is a story that stays with you. NO spoilers here, the great reviews are well deserved. Sometimes the subtitles fall short, but it doesn't ruin the movie.
Wonderfully funny, thoroughly Korean melodramatic rom-com
This is a modern classic, and its themes have been copied in myriad other Korean films since its release (even copied into a Hollywood version of this film starring Elisha Cuthbert), but the themes are thoroughly Korean, derived from age-old Korean folk tales and stories (see the story of Gyeon Woo and Jik Nyeo - 견우와 직녀 - for one example). The split nature of the story and the pacing might seem odd to those more familiar with Hollywood-style movies, but the story is engaging, humorous, and sweet, and entertains from beginning to end.
Step Outside the Box
This film has a bit of all things. At times it works well and at other times it doesn't work so well. For being one of the first Korean Language films I have ever watched it was an excellent toe dip into the culture of Korean Cinema. After viewing I understand why it was such a big hit in South Korea.
